Registration FAQs

Q: Are free lessons going away?

A: No way — providing no-cost lessons for students in grades 3–12 remains the core commitment of MCFM and it will always be our primary mission.

Q: How do I get a free slot? Do I have to apply? Do I have to qualify?

A: Any kid, 3rd through 12th grade, is eligible for our free lessons. Just choose the Free Lessons option above, fill out the form and you’ll automatically be added to the waitlist. (Remember that our slots are limited and the waitlist is sometimes long!)

Q: Who can take paid lessons?

A: Anyone — preschoolers through adults — who wants to learn an instrument with one of the awesome Major Chords instructors can sign up for paid lessons, including kids who technically qualify for free lessons.

Q: So...families can choose paid lessons even if they qualify for free lessons?

A: Yep — families choose the option that makes sense for them. And every student will always receive high-quality instruction and support.

Q: Why would a kid who qualifies for free lessons choose the paid option?

A: Maybe (definitely) the waitlist for free lessons is long and you just don’t want to wait. Maybe you would rather leave a free slot open for someone who may need it more than your family does. Maybe you just want to be part of supporting the good mission of Major Chords. Your family gets to choose what is right for them.

Q: So Major Chords is adding a paid lesson option to support the original mission and to remove barriers to music education for everyone. That’s cool. I get it now.

A: Yep, that’s it. Like we always say … Saginaw’s Soundtrack Starts Here. And that wasn't a question.
